In our research, we found that 98% of students reached grade-level word reading in an average of 12 clinical hours of instruction. But of course some students require extra, ongoing, or review work in the concepts and skills needed for fluent reading and spelling. This Instruction Manual and its accompanying Support Book for Extended Students are designed to give you the tools necessary for those who need more from you than just a 12-week course.
This manual presents and explains activities for students who have completed a course of Phono-Graphix reading therapy but are not yet fluent readers or spellers. It shows you how to structure extended therapy lessons, how to set goals with your students, how to help motivate them and how to center your skill and concept practice around books of the students' choosing, for the motivation that results from keeping your practice in the proper context.
Note that these lessons should not be a student’s first exposure to Phono-Graphix. Always complete all the lessons in the Phono-Graphix Certification Kit, Word Work Classroom Lesson Plan Manual, Silver Lining Teen Literacy Kit or Reading Reflex before starting this manual. By 'all the lessons' we mean the lessons themselves, not necessarily the word lists.
